The carbohydrate research program at the Carlsberg Laboratory focuses on
the general area of developing new tools for the detection and structure
determination of complex carbohydrates: as reducing sugars, on
glycoproteins, on glycolipids and on proteoglycans. There are many
effective tools being used for this today, but they often require large
sample sizes, expensive instrumentation and very high levels of expertise. With the hope of advancing Glycobiology research in general, we focus on developing simpler and user-friendlier approaches targeting, among others, New methods for "dummy-proof" tagging of reducing oligosaccharides with fluorescent and other tags Chemical reagents that can detect differences in the glycosylation of intact glycoconjugates Polyvalent ligand presentation through geometrically-defined self-assembly in solution
